Yoga Cat Pose (Bidalasana)

Yoga cat pose is a basic yoga pose before processing other poses such as Downward dog or Child pose etc. It improves flexibility of your spine, relieves your shoulders’ tension and exercises your neck muscles. In addition, It provides massages to the respiratory organs. The diaphragm massages the heart and lung when it extends out and contracts in during the pose operation.

Instructions

1. Start on your hands and knees in a "tabletop" position. Your palms and your knees are set apart around your shoulder’s width. Fully spread your fingers with the middle fingers pointing straight ahead. Inhale, while raising the head and depressing the spine into a concave position. Allow the abdomen to expand, as the lower lungs fill with air.

2. Exhale, contracting the abdomen, while lowering the head, and curving the spine upwards. This is one round of performing cat pose. yoga cat pose step2 image

3. For the variation, while you inhale, kick your right leg backward and have your tight parallel to the floor. Remain in this position until you exhale. While contracting the abdomen and lowering the head, bend your right knee in front. Touch the knee on your chest. Do the pose for 5-10 times and then do the same for your left leg. yoga cat pose step3 image
