Yoga Poses for Cold
Common cold is caused by more than 120 viruses. These viruses are found in snot, saliva and phlegm disseminated in the air. When a person breath, these viruses will be caught at your upper respiratory tract, causing infection in sinus, pharynx and larynx.
In scientific study Rhinovirus was found to be the major cause of common cold, 105 from 200 cases or over half the cases in the study. Other causes of cold symptoms included coronavirus, influenza A virus, and respiratory syncitial virus (RSV).
Usually adults can get cold 2-4 times a year while children get cold more often, 6-10 times a year. Common cold lasts 5-14 days. However, a person who gets cold longer than 7 days is more vulnerable to severe symptoms such as pneumonia, middle ear infection etc.
Yoga helps strengthen a person's immune system and therefore help prevent cold. Yogic lifestyle such as yogic breathing, doing yoga asana, getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, drinking plenty of liquid, and no tobacco are the mean to raise the immune system.
Practice of yoga poses also helps in reducing high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone in the body, that increases susceptibility to viruses.
Yoga Lion Pose is a great exercise for your face muscles and neck. It also heals sore throat symptom. In Sanskrit, Simha means a lion or power. The posture looks like a roaring lion.
Standing Forward Bend is the second pose in Sun Salutation.This pose brings energy to the head and respiratory area; helps clear the sinuses.
Fish Yoga Pose open the chest and throat which helps relieve upper respiratory congestion as well as benefits the heart. It is the counter pose to shoulder stand.
Shoulder Stand Pose stretches the neck muscles. This pose increases the blood supply to the upper part of the body especially head, neck and shoulder. It is a therapeutic for asthma and sinusitis.
