Yoga Poses for Weight Loss
In 2005, there is a research by Alan R. Kristal and others at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center which has found that regular yoga practice may help prevent middle-age spread in normal-weight people and may promote weight loss in those who are overweight.
The study shows that most of people in the age between 45 to55 gained about a pound a year but men and women who were of normal weight at age 45 and regularly practiced yoga gained about 3 fewer pounds during the 10-year period than those who didn't practice yoga.
In addition, Men and women who were overweight and practiced yoga 1 hour a week lost about 5 pounds, while those who did not practice yoga gained about 14 pounds in that 10-year period,
Some people may find Power Yoga the most beneficial weight loss yoga. Some choose Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga. However, These types of yoga require practicing basic yoga poses. Hatha Yoga practice is recommended for the beginners who want to loose weight. When they get used to simple yoga asanas, they may advance to Vinyasa Yoga or Yoga Flow, a flowing sequence of poses connecting breath with movement. An example of Yoga Flow is Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar, a series of 12 yoga poses.
Yoga Tree Pose (Vrksasana) develops balance and stability, and strengthens the legs and feet. It also increases flexibility in the hips and knees.
Half Moon Pose strengthens the abdominal muscles, ankles and thighs. It improves balance, increasing the flexibility of the spine, hamstrings and opens up the hip.
Triangle Pose provides an excellent and complete stretch throughout the entire body. It stimulates blood flow and helps to stretch and relax the back, shoulders, legs and arms. Doing this pose needs a lot of concentration and precision. A beginner may use a yoga block if applicable.
Revolved Triangle Pose is usually performed after Triangle Pose or Trikonasana pose. In this pose, your spine is in extension as well as rotation.
Yoga Warrior Pose series strengthen the legs, opens the hips and chest and stretch the arms and legs. They also improve your balance and concentration.
Sun Salutation is a series of 12 yoga poses which is originally done to honor the sun. It is usually performed in the morning or at the beginning of yoga pose exercise. The beginner may practice these series at least 6 times and gradually add up to 12 times per a work out.
